Supported by the Constructivist theory, Design Thinking is a creative process that can help you design meaningful solutions in the classroom and in your community.
In this hands-on course you will develop a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of Design Thinking. You will collaborate with your peers and develop strategies to use the Design Thinking process to solve a real world problem. You will learn new tools such as web coding and 3D printing technology that can help you and your students to reach your learning objective.
In this course, we will explore how to effectively communicate in a teaching environment by applying the best practices of visual design. We use Stanford’s d.school Design Thinking framework to spark meaningful collaboration and human centric design. We focus on techniques in presentation, web design, and prototyping for flipped, blended and online classes.

In this course you will
- Develop a proposal/blue print and prototype to solve a real-world problem with an educational focus, using the OpenIDEO project as the guide (OpenIDEO is an online community and design initiative started by the Silicon Valley design company IDEO. The community strives to uses a human-centered, collaborative approach to solving complex issues. );
- Design and produce a website that targets design strategy in the educational field;
- Engage in constructive feedback and assessment both on one’s own work through the design process, and on collaborative projects.
