Learning by doing, thinking≠ doing
Presentation skill is essential for educators. We are familiar with many presentation tools such as Powerpoint, Prezi, Haiku Deck, Powtoon, Camtasia, and Articulate. In many occasions, building a quick mini site is the most effective way to tie all these together. When working on rapid prototyping, using a site builder or WYSIWYG tool is the fastest and most efficient method. With web building, HTML and CSS knowledge, we can take advantage of the templates that WYSIWYGs provide. At the same time, we can customize the look and feel of the page and add additional functions. Knowing basic HTML and CSS is one of the essential skills for instructional designers.
In this module, we will begin writing HTML elements in earnest. We will start by exploring the different levels of headings. We will also look at paragraphs in greater detail. Along with those two very important elements, we’ll look at the other major structural elements that are used in writing good, solid HTML. The goal of this module is
to start you off on the right track, specifically, keeping your HTML semantically sound. Semantic HTML is a way of writing code that reinforces or adds meaning to the
page content.

Student Outcomes:
- Understand how the web works including domain hosting and web hosting;
- Able to create a prototype with one of the top site builders;
- Know what is a WYSIWIG and how it works;
- Understand the importance of HTML & CSS;
- Be able to create a basic site with type and image with a code editor (Dreamweaver/Coda2/Sublime/Coffee Cup).
Activity:
- In this class we will spend 30 minutes discuss the book Creative confidence: Unleashing the creative potential within us all, and also review our previous class experience. Does interview a person change your perspective of designing a solution?
- We will work with 3-4 people per group. Research on one of the following constructivism theorists (Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Seymour Papert, George Siemens, Jean Lave, Étienne Wenger). Use one web builder or WYSIWYG of your choice to build a presentation that will introduce the person and his or her theories to your classmate.
