Designing for Synchronous , Asynchronous and Hybrid Environment
In recent years, a variety of online courses have begun to appear as standard offerings from a broad spectrum of educational and training institutions. Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) such as Coursera, Udacity and Edx offers course from environmental science to life of happiness. Often these courses consist of web-based access to textual, graphical course materials, as well as audio or video materials. To design a visually appealing, content rich course for synchronous, asynchronous and hybrid learning has become a great challenge for today's educators. We will begin to learn basic visual design fundamentals in image, color and typography. We will also learn how to combine all of the above on a web page to effectively present information through hierarchy.

- Understand how to manipulate images with photo editing tools (Photoshop and Sketch);
- Understand basic color theory; able to use Adobe Color to create a color palette;
- Understand typography hierarchy, able to use hierarchy in the design layout;
- Be able to use CSS to control images, colors and type on a web page.
Activity:
- In this class we will spend 30 minutes to discuss the reading Constructivism, and review key constructivism theories.
- Work with 3-4 people per group, and research on one of the following subjects. Using all the knowledge we have in terms of visual presentation on the web to create a one page web page, showcase how to create a visually appealing and content rich course with the following digital technologies (interactive white board, augmented reality, MOOC, gamification).
